Special Message from the President

Alh. Babatunde T. Rotinwa, FCIPA

President and Chairman of Council

I am pleased and highly honoured to welcome to this platform, our adorable and astute public administrators and key decision-makers with exceptional qualities who have every cause to continue championing and channeling the affairs of our dear Nation to a place of destiny. I am sincerely humbled by these huge tasks before you, for which I have also decided to collaborate and make the most of all available opportunities, both human and material, to make our drive for excellent leadership through advanced knowledge, skills, and professionalism.

There is an Irish proverb that says: ‘You have to do your own growing, no matter how tall your grandfather was’. In the spirit of the collective struggles and legacy brokered by our heroes past, we must not only sustain, but also consolidate their endeared dreams of one destiny, one goal, and one people. It is in the realization of this clear-cut vision that the Chartered Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria re-affirms its longtime commitment of “Building Those Who Build Nation” with a view to achieving the following basic objectives:

  • The promotion and development of the science of and practice of public administration
  • The provision of a professional framework for public administrators with the necessary professionalism, dedication and self-esteem.
  • The promotion of the exchange of related ideas and relevant information, formulation of exact standards of competence and conduct as well as exercise discipline to uphold the highest ethical demeanor among members
  • The general quest to promote administrative skills for the benefit of the public sector and at large, the Nigerian Economy.

These objectives further clarify and authenticate the Institute’s corporate intention of building borderless professionals, institutional skills, administrative technocrats, patriotic spirit, and above all, character through intensive capacity building seminars over the years.

Even though our great nation had experienced many twists and turns in recent pasts, and our present situation is a function of protracted years of broken promises by past leaders, yet people remain the power points of every good government policy because without the people, the government will run out of options to the last. Any government that assumes airs of superiority over the people is obviously heading for the gallows. This is why all Nigerians- old and young, adults, student, corporate organizations, and Public administrators, must fight the monster of autocracy where the people’s voice does not count, and entrench the principle of the true leadership to give our nascent democracy a new definition. We must embrace the waves of change across the nation such that we can begin the journey to the much-sought-after prosperous future early.

Nigeria is the God’s own country, it is left for us –the professional public administrators to summon unrelenting courage, and use this professional platform to rise to the challenges that easily cripple our nationhood, and take our destinies in our hands. Nobody elsewhere can build Nigeria to our taste for us. We must come together, regardless of our political affiliation, religious association, social differences, or ethnic prejudice, to confront the stormy gales and tidal waves that are holding us captive; so as to make the thin thick. Our past failures are not enough justification for future failures. For this reason, we must not ignore a call of this magnitude- a call for a better tomorrow; a call for voting into power credible leaders- both at the highest, middle, and grass root level; a call to lead and lead well. We own it a duty to ourselves, the future generation and the world at large, to discover, develop and deliver to the nation, professionals public Administrator who will take Nigeria out of it present challenges.

May God help us.
